You Can Participate In Catalyst Using E-mail

Catalyst can send new posts to you via email on a schedule of your choice. You can respond to mailouts using your email client and your responses will be automatically posted into the correct Catalyst topic. Links back into the web version are provided for each response in a mailout.

Click on your name anywhere in Catalyst and then click on "Edit my Catalyst Options"

You'll go to a screen like this:

To the right of each conference you can enter is a pull down menu that lets you select how frequently you would like to have messages form the conference e-mailed to you.

Mail Format:
Catalyst email will be sent to you in plain text format exactly as it's entered into the response box. So plain text responses will arrive as plain text and HTML will arrive as HTML source code. This will result in some things being more readable than others in the mailouts, but you're always one click away from the web version.

Uploaded Files:
Files uploaded via the web interface are NOT currently sent in the mailouts. Instead you will see a token that indicates an uploaded file is to be displayed. Click the URL to the web version to access the file.

Responding via email:
It is possible to respond to Catalyst mailouts via email, though the recommended method is to link to the web interface for the full context. However, if you are on the road or need to respond via email for some other reason, it's easy to do so. Just click 'reply' in your mail client and replace the "Type_Your_Response_Here" text with your actual response to that post. You may respond to multiple posts in a single mailout using the same method. Your responses will appear in Catalyst within one hour.

Mark seen:
Replying via email WILL mark any responses in the email as 'seen'. This happens whether or not your are adding a new response in the email. This gives web users feedback about which conversations you are participating in via the 'who has seen' feature.
